PROVIDENCE - The Princeton women's squash team got 3-0 wins from its No. 2 through No. 9 players to earn an 8-1 win at Brown Saturday. The win improves Princeton to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Ivy League.
Claire Rein-Weston lost a very tough match at No. 1, but Princeton rebounded with sweeps throughout the rest of the lineup to clinch the win. Carly Grabowski made her top-9 debut at the No. 8 spot and defeated Julie Flygare 3-0.
"Overall, I think this is one of the strongest teams I have seen Brown have," head coach Gail Ramsay said. "I thought we came out very sharp and we attacked well. I was pleased with our overall aggressiveness and determination." Rein-Weston's match was clearly the most competitive match of the day. She won the first two games 9-7 and 9-5, and held several match balls after going up 8-3 in the third game, but Lillian Rosenthal battled back to earn 10-9, 9-4 and 10-8 wins in the final games.
"Claire came out very strong in those first two games," Ramsay said. "She fought very hard the whole match. Both she and Lillian covered the court very well. It was great determination showed by both players."
Ramsay was pleased with the rest of her lineup's performance, including 3-0 wins by her next two players, Marilla Hiltz and Genevieve Lessard.
"Hiltz dominated Cerullo and contained her quite well the whole match," Ramsay said. "Lessard came out a little slow but settled down and was able to keep the pressure on Erin."
Princeton's next Ivy League match will be Jan. 26 at home against Penn.
