Men's hockey travels to Cornell and Colgate this weekend

Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton men's hockey team takes its show on the road to central New York to face two of the ECAC's top teams this weekend. On Friday night the Tigers face off with defending league champion Cornell and on Saturday the Orange and Black skates at second-place Colgate.

Drop the Puck... The Princeton men's hockey team heads out on the road for its next four games, beginning with this weekend's trip to central New York to face Cornell and Colgate.
Last Time Out... Princeton face Brown last Friday night and fell 5-2 to the Bears at Baker Rink. Down 2-0 late in the second period, the Tigers rallied to send the game to the second intermission tied at two. However, Brown rebounded with three third-period goals to claim the win.
The Series with Cornell... Princeton is 42-69-7 all-time against Cornell and is 12-37-2 in games played in Ithaca. Cornell has currently one seven straight games in the series, dating back to a 4-1 Princeton win on Feb. 9, 2001. Cornell posted a 7-0 win in the team's meeting earlier this season in Princeton. There are only three current Tigers who have recorded points against Cornell in their careers. They are junior Neil Stevenson-Moore, sophomore Seamus Young and senior Matt Maglione. Scouting the Big Red... Cornell climbed into a three-way tie for third-place in the ECAC last weekend with a sweep at Dartmouth and Vermont. Cornell is 10-7-6 overall and 8-5-3 in the ECAC. The Big Red has struggled this season on home ice, playing to a 2-5-5 record at Lynah Rink and 8-2-1 on the road.
Earlier this Season... Cornell defeated Princeton 7-0 in the team's first meeting of the season in November at Baker Rink. Cornell's Ryan Vesce had seven points (3-4) in the game.
The Series with Colgate... Princeton is 40-34-6 all-time against Colgate and 10-22-2 in games played in Hamilton. Colgate is currently unbeaten in four against Princeton, including a 3-2 overtime loss to earlier this season in Princeton. The Tigers last won on Nov. 30, 2001 in Princeton 2-1.
Scouting the Raiders... Colgate enters the weekend on an eight-game unbeaten streak dating back to Jan. 10. Colgate is 6-0-2 in that span, including a home-and-home sweep of Cornell. Colgate is one of only two league team's ranked in the national polls, currently at 14th in the USA Today Poll and 15th in the USCHO.com poll.
Earlier this Season... Colgate came out the 3-2 victors in an overtime game at Baker Rink in November. Colgate battled back from deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 to even up the game and won it on Jon Smyth's overtime goal. Princeton had a chance late in the game to take a 3-2 lead, but junior Mike Patton was unable to convert on a breakaway attempt.
A Look at the Standings... Princeton is currently 11th in the ECAC standings with 11 points. However, the Tigers are only three points out of a home-ice playoff spot in the first round. Clarkson currently holds down that spot with 14 points. St. Lawrence sits ninth with 13 points, and Union is 10th with 12 points.
A Look Ahead... Princeton continues its schedule on the road next weekend at Dartmouth and Vermont, before heading home to face Rensselaer and Union in the final weekend of the regular season.
Ranked Opponents... Princeton's game with Colgate is its seventh game this season against a ranked opponent. The Tigers are 1-5 this season in games against ranked opponents. The win came at Harvard, while the losses came to Miami and St. Cloud State (2) on the road and to Cornell and Brown on home ice.
What's Up Cuz... Princeton freshman defenseman Max Cousins scored his first collegiate goal last Friday night against Brown. Cousins' goal came on a shot from the point and was a power play goal. Assists on the goal came from sophomore's Brian Carthas and Seamus Young.
Another Season First... Senior Dan Hursh knotted the game with brown up at two goals apiece with his breakaway goal late in the second period. It was the first goal and point of the season for Hursh, who missed a significant number of games earlier this season due to injury. Seniors Matt Maglione and Steve Slaton assisted on the goal.
Career Highs... Slaton's assist on Friday night marked his 10th point of the season, which tied his point totals of his freshman and junior years for the highest in his career. His three goals this season is already a career high.
