When you win the national championship two seasons in a row, there isn't any reason to believe you can't do it again.
At least that's the belief of the 15 coaches who vote in the IWLCA Women's Lacrosse rankings, a group that has ranked the Tigers No. 1 in their preseason poll released Thursday. Princeton received 296 points, grabbing all but four of the group's first-place votes, to outdistance second-ranked Maryland by 26 points.
The Tigers, who open their 2004 season at Lafayette March 3, are the team to beat again in 2004 after winning their final eight games of the 2003 season, including an 8-7 overtime victory against Virginia in the national championship game at Syracuse's Carrier Dome May 19. The Cavaliers are ranked third in the 2004 preseason rankings, while Duke is fourth and Loyola is ranked fifth.
Georgetown, Dartmouth, James Madison, Ohio State and Penn State round out the Top 10. Cornell (#15) and Yale (#18) join the Tigers as Ivy League teams in the preseason Top 20.
