Seventh Heaven! Women's Swimming Ends Ivy Dual Meet Season With 7-0 Record

NEW YORK CITY - Sarah Schaffer took the 100 back and the 100 breast, while Stephanie Hsiao took the 100 IM and the 200 IM, as the Princeton women's swimming and diving team defeated Columbia 141-101 in New York City Friday night. Princeton improved to a perfect 7-0 in Ivy League dual meets.
Hsiao won the 100 IM in 59:08 and the 200 IM in 2:07.33. The latter ended up being a Princeton showdown, as Hsiao topped teammates Sarah Fraumann (2:09.21) and Libby Englemeier (2:09.86). Schaffer won the 100 back in 58.75 and the 100 breast in 1:07.00.
Columbia took the first four races of the meet, but Princeton showed its experience by calmly taking eight of the final nine races. Following Hsiao's win in the 100 IM and a Columbia win in 3-meter diving, Kelly Hannigan won the 100 butterfy in 57.59 and Stefanie Lawlor won the 100 free in 53.72.
Schaffer and Hsiao followed with wins, and Michelle Demond ran away with the 1-meter diving event (289.50 points). After Schaffer's second win, Princeton put the final touches on another successful meet by winning the 200 free relay in 1:38.65, .05 of a second faster than Columbia.
Princeton is off until the Ivy League championships, which will be held at Harvard during the final weekend in February.
