Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton men's hockey team honored its seniors and announced its 2003-04 award and letter winners in a ceremony Saturday evening at Princeton's Class of '56 lounge.
The first award of the night went to freshman Grant Goeckner-Zoeller, who was awarded the Hobey Baker Trophy as the team's freshman hockey player who, among his classmates, in play, sportsmanship and influence has contributed most to the sport. Goeckner-Zoeller led the Tigers in scoring during the 2003-04 season with five goals and 15 assists for 20 points. Ross Lambert '84 presented the award.
The next award presented was the Richard E. Vaughan Cup, which was presented by John Cook '63, Princeton's all-time leading goal scorer. The cup is awarded annually to that varsity player who best exemplifies perseverance and dedication to Princeton Hockey. The award went to senior co-captain Steve Slaton, who was unable to be at the banquet as he is playing professionally in the ECHL for the Greensboro Generals. Slaton also received the 1941 Championship Team Trophy, awarded annually to that varsity player who best reflected the winning spirit of the 1941 championship team and in so doing was an inspiration to his teammates.
The final trophy of the night, the Blackwell Trophy 2004, is annually awarded to that member of the Princeton varsity hockey team who in play, sportsmanship and influence has contributed most to the sport. This year the award had two recipients, senior Matt Maglione and sophomore Eric Leroux.
