It's only been a little more than a year since the Princeton women's lacrosse team finally lost after a program-record 20-game winning streak. But the top-ranked Tigers can repeat that feat for the second time in three seasons with a win over No. 14 Yale Saturday afternoon at Class of 1952 Stadium (3 p.m., CSTV, GoPrincetonTigers.com).
Ironically, Yale is the last team to defeat the Tigers, a 7-6 victory in New Haven nearly a year ago. And the Bulldogs (7-3, 2-1 Ivy) return several key components from that team that reached the NCAA second round, including the Ivy League's leading scorer in senior Miles Whitman.
Princeton (10-0, 2-0 Ivy) has averaged better than 16 goals per game in its last three games, including a season-high 19 goals in a 19-6 non-conference win at Temple Wednesday. Junior attacker Lindsey Biles led the Tigers with four goals and already has 32 goals this season, two more than she had the entire 2003 season.
As the race for the Ivy League title and the league's automatic berth into the NCAA tournament heats up, the Tigers can push Yale two games back in the loss column with a win. Dartmouth, which tied Princeton and Yale for the league title last year, is also undefeated in Ivy play (3-0) entering a Friday night game at Cornell.
Should Princeton defeat the Bulldogs, the Tigers can set a new record for consecutive wins Wednesday night against Penn at Class of 1952 Stadium. Saturday's game against Yale will be televised live by CSTV beginning at 3 p.m. Princeton's men's lacrosse game against Rutgers at noon will also be televised by CSTV.
