Theresa Sherry Named IWLCA Midfielder of the Year

Theresa Sherry, whose stellar midfield play led Princeton to an undefeated regular season and a third-straight appearance in the national championship game, has been named the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Midfield Player of the Year.
Sherry, who also earned first-team All-America honors for the third straight year in 2004, finished second on the Tigers in both goals (48) and points (64) this season and also tied for the team lead in draw controls (44). One of five finalists for the Tewaaraton Trophy honoring the national player of the year, Sherry started all 20 games and was named to the All-Ivy first team for the third time.
A team captain in 2004, Sherry also finished third on the Tigers with 39 groundballs and 23 caused turnovers. She scored three or more goals 10 times in 20 games, including a career-best six goals in a win at Harvard and five goals in a regular-season win against eventual national champion Virginia.
The senior from Baltimore, Md., finished her career third on Princeton's all-time goal scoring list with 161 and fourth all-time in points at Princeton with 197. She scored 40 or more goals in each of her final three seasons with the Tigers.
Virginia's Amy Appelt was named the IWLCA Attack Player of the Year, while Georgetown's Michi Ellers earned Defense Player of the Year honors. Elizabeth Tortorelli of Penn State earend the C. Markland Kelly Award as the national goalie of the year in Division I.
