NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Princeton women's swimming and diving team entered the weekend without an Ivy League loss in more than six years. It left as the hunter for next month's Ivy League championship, with Harvard assuming the role of the hunted.
The last Ivy League team to defeat Princeton during the regular season was Brown, who pulled off the win during the 1997-98 season. Since then, Princeton has been flawless in the league, and five of those seasons culminated in the Ivy League championship.
This season could end the same way, but the Tigers know they will have to improve their games to catch Harvard. The Crimson defeated Princeton 203-116 over the weekend to stay unbeaten in the league. The Tigers topped Yale 192-127 to remain in second place. Harvard defeated Yale 229-90.
Princeton got four individual wins over the weekend, including two from senior co-captain Stephanie Hsiao. She claimed the 100 free in 50.58 and the 200 IM in 2:05.01. She defeated teammate Lisa Hamming in that event, with Hamming placing second in 2:06.09.
Libby Engelmaier won the 1000 free in 10:08.99, while Amy Jones (1:49.90) and Brett Shiflett (1:52.00) finished 1-2 in the 200 free.
Princeton falls to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in the Ivy League.
