Ithaca, N.Y. - The Princeton sprint football team fell 31-13 at Cornell on Friday night. After the Big Red opened a 10-0 lead in the first half, the Tigers cut the lead to 10-6 early in the third quarter on Lon Johnson's first touchdown reception of the game, but could not get any closer as Cornell would pull away later in the quarter.
Princeton fell to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the Collegiate Sprint Football League, while Cornell is now 2-3 overall and 1-1 in league play.
Cornell opened the scoring early on with a 33-yard field goal kicked by Jason Zittel. The Big Red padded the lead early in the second quarter when Michael Fullowan ran the ball in a yard to make the score 10-0. The Tigers came out for the second half and answered with their first points of the season when Alex Kandabarow hit Lon Johnson with an 80-yard touchdown reception. Neil Swami's extra-point attempt was blocked.
Four points was as close as the Tigers could get however, as Cornell's Christopher Mascaro ran in two touchdowns, one for 11 yards and one for five, to give Cornell a 24-6 lead entering the fourth quarter. Cornell made the lead 31-6 on a 47-yard touchdown run, but Princeton answered back late in the frame when Johnson caught his second touchdown pass, a 36-yard catch, to cap a five-play 56-yard drive.
Kandabarow was 9 for 33 in the game for 207 yards. Johnson was on the receiving end of six of the passes for 194 yards. Princeton visits Navy next Friday night at 7 p.m.
