Lexington, Va. - Lon Johnson caught a 53-yard touchdown pass from Alex Kandabarow and Frank Langston ran for two touchdowns to lead the Princeton sprint football team to a 19-7 win over Virginia Military Academy Saturday afternoon.
Princeton's win over VMI, a club team, came after 40 straight Collegiate Sprint Football League losses for the Tigers. Princeton returns to the CSFL when it hosts Penn Friday night in its season-finale.
"Nobody on this team had ever won a game before," said Princeton coach Bill Hickey. "They were ecstatic. They're all appreciative of the opportuinity to be a part of it."
Johnson's touchdown was the only score of the first half, which ended with Princeton on top 6-0. The lead grew to 19-0 when Langston scored on runs of two yards and 10 yards before a late VMI touchdown.
Princeton's win over VMI came after a 98-0 loss to Navy one week earlier.
"I think VMI saw that score and took us very lightly," Hickey said. "We came out and took control of the game, and we didn't let them get it back from us. I'm proud of the team, and I'm happy for them.
