An inspired Princeton sprint football team got 107 yards rushing from Frank Langston and outscored Penn 12-7 in the second half, but couldn't recover from 23 first-quarter points from the Quakers in a 38-12 Penn win at Frelinghuysen Field Friday night.
Penn (3-3) scored twice on long runs in the first four minutes of the game to take a 14-0 lead, then took advantage of a blocked punt and an interception deep in Princeton (1-6) territory to score twice more in the first quarter.
Princeton had the only points of the third quarter, taking advantage of a Penn turnover to score those points. Quarterback Mike LoGuidice was sacked and fumbled, giving the ball to the Tigers on Penn's 12-yard line. On 3rd-and-12, Princeton quarterback Alex Kandabarow found Cleland Welton for a 14-yard score to put the Tigers on the board.
The Tigers scored again late in the game, going eight plays in 68 yards and getting a six-yard touchdown run from Langston with 5:24 left.
Langston ran 24 times for those 107 yards, a Princeton season-high. Scott Pickett led Penn with 126 yards rushing, while J.T. Hutchinson had 80 yards on 10 carries.
Princeton had more first downs than Penn (17 to 15) and ran 73 plays to just 64 for the Quakers.
