PRINCETON, N.J. - Four players score in double figures as Princeton tops Columbia 72-53 Friday night in Jadwin Gym. The Tigers' record improves to 13-11 on the season and 5-6 in the conference, while the Lions drop to 11-13 overall and 4-7 in the Ivy League.
Junior Becky Brown scored a game-high 19 points in the game. Freshman Ariel Rogers had 13 points and a game-high seven rebounds on the night, while both junior Katy O'Brien and freshman Meagan Cowher chipped in 10 points. Princeton never trailed in the game and leaped out to a 10-point lead in the first 10 minutes of action. O'Brien nailed a three-pointer at the 8:58 mark to put the Tigers up 20-10. With that three-ball O'Brien tied Maureen Lane (2001-02) on the single-season made three-point list with 55 baskets from behind the arc this season.
A 13-3 run by Princeton made the score 33-13 with just under five minutes to play. Both junior Lauren Nestor and sophomore Casey Lockwood made free throws in the run. By halftime Columbia cut the lead to 37-21 with made free throws from Susan Kern and Megan Griffith.
In the second period the Tigers drastically improved upon their free throw shooting from a game ago as they shot 90 percent from the charity stripe, netting 18 of 20 attempts.
Lisa Copeland made a three from downtown and cut the Princeton lead to 12, 41-29. On the next play Lockwood was fouled and added two more points to the scoreboard for the Tigers.
With a layup from Adia Revell at the 13:56 mark Columbia trailed 46-38, but weren't able to get any closer. A three-pointer from Nestor and four points from Rogers gave Princeton a 53-40 advantage with 10:52 left to play.
In the final nine minutes Princeton was 9 of 10 from the line while Columbia was 60 percent in the game. The Tigers out-rebounded the Lions 37-21 and held Columbia to 33 percent shooting from the floor.
Princeton hosts Cornell at 7 p.m. after honoring senior night at Jadwin Gym, on Saturday.
