No. 23 Women's Basketball Starts Fast; Drops Brown in Ivy Semifinal, 65-51

ITHACA – The No. 23 Princeton Women's Basketball Team used a strong first half to defeat the Brown Bears, 65-51, in the Ivy League Tournament Semifinal at Newman Arena on Saturday evening.
The Tigers started off on fire in the first quarter as it ripped off 21 of the first 24 points of contest and led 23-6 after 10 minutes. Head coach Carla Berube's group went 9-of-15 (60.0 percent) during that stretch.
Princeton began the second stanza with consecutive triples from Fadima Tall and Skye Belker to go up 23, 29-6. The Tigers led by as many as 25 before taking a 36-14 advantage into halftime.
Head coach Carla Berube's unit opened the second half with eight of the first 11 points to take its largest lead of the game, 44-17, at the 6:52 mark.
Brown made a push, ripping off four consecutive triples to get within 15, 47-32, forcing a Princeton timeout. The Tigers kept the Bears at bay and held a 53-36 lead as the fourth quarter began.
The No. 4 seeded Bears made one more run, closing the gap to 10, 58-48, with 1:18 remaining, but Princeton hit seven from the charity stripe down the stretch to close out the contest.
The Tigers had four in double figures led by St. Rose with 18 points. Tall posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds while Belker also added 11 points in the win. Ashley Chea (12 points, eight rebounds) and Olivia Hutcherson (eight points, nine rebounds) just missed double-doubles.
With the win, Princeton improves to 25-3 overall while Brown dropped to 16-11. It's the ninth time in program history that the Tigers reached 25 victories in a season. Berube's team will take on the winner of Harvard and Columbia in the Ivy League Tournament Championship Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
