PRINCETON - Despite a match-high 18 kills from freshman Peter Eichler and a tight win in the opening game, the Princeton men's volleyball team fell 3-1 to Springfield College Friday night at Dillon Gym. The loss gives Springfield a crucial season sweep over Princeton.
Springfield dropped the first game 30-28, but came back to win the final three games 30-27, 30-25 and 30-20. The win improves Springfield to 5-10 overall, 2-6 in the Tait Division, while Princeton falls to 3-9 and 2-6. Springfield, Princeton and N.Y.U. are all racing for the final two playoff spots from the Tait Division.
Eichler had 18 kills while senior middle hitter Sean Vitousek had 15 kills and seven blocks. Senior outside hitter Blake Robinson had 10 kills, although he was one of numerous Tigers who suffered from error-plagued hitting. The Tigers had 37 errors and hit .114 for the match.
