EUGENE, Ore. - The Princeton women's tennis team began its Spring Break trip to the West Coast with a 4-3 defeat against 29th-ranked Oregon Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers won at No. 2 singles thanks to an outstanding 9-7 win by Darcy Robertson and Joanna Roth, but the Ducks took the other two doubles matches to win the doubles point. Princeton would then take four different singles matches into three sets, winning two, but those came after the Ducks had clinched the match.
Joanna Roth was a big singles winner for Princeton, defeating Jamie Marshall by a 6-4, 6-3 score at No. 4. Both Jessica Siebel, at No. 1, and Laura Trimble, at No. 6, took the first set against their respective opponents, but both Daria Panova at No. 1 and Ester Bak at No. 6 came from behind to win those matches for Oregon. Christine Kansky, at No. 3, and Stephanie Berg, at No. 5, each won 10-point tiebreaks for Princeton to win singles matches.
The Tigers play the University of Portland Monday afternoon in Eugene.
