No. 39 Princeton Falls At Yale, Will Play For Ivy Title Sunday At Brown
April 18, 2026 | Women's Tennis
The Princeton women's tennis team saw its perfect run through the Ivy League season ended Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 loss at No. 40 Yale. Princeton, ranked 39th, will still have the chance to play for an Ivy League championship Sunday as the regular season ends.
Yale won the doubles point and then three of the four singles matches to finish. Princeton got its lone point from Madeleine Jessup at No. 4, who defeated Yale's Julia Werdiger 6-4, 7-5.
Princeton and Yale enter the final day of the season tied for first at 5-1, with Columbia now a game back at 4-2 after its Saturday loss at Harvard. Princeton will be at Brown at 1, the same time Yale hosts Penn. Should both win, they would tie for the championship. Should one win and the other lose, then the winner would be the outright Ivy champ.
It's still possible to have a three-way tie, should both Princeton and Yale lose and Columbia defeat Dartmouth. Should Princeton and Yale finish in a two-way tie, Yale would own the league's automatic NCAA tournament bid.
