Men's Lightweight Crew Gets Strong Performances From Young Boats At Easterns

While the first varsity boat was unable to reach the grand final at Sunday's Easterns Sprints, the men's lightweight crew got a boost from its younger boats. The third varsity boat placed third while the top freshman boat placed second in its respective grand finals.
The top varsity boat was unable to reach the grand final and settled for a third-place finish in the petite final. Princeton finished in 5:50.872, behind both Rutgers and Columbia. The Eastern Sprint and Ivy League championship went to Harvard, which held off Yale to win the crown.
Princeton finished fifth in the second varsity eight, going 5:58.450, and the Tigers placed third in the third varsity eight, going 5:55.958.
The top finish was had by the freshman eight, which surged ahead of its Ivy League rivals and went into a tight sprint with Navy for the Eastern title. In the end, it was Navy which claimed a win in 5:48.437, while Princeton came in just behind ay 5:49.664. The next closest Ivy League rival was Columbia, which came in five seconds behind Princeton.
Princeton will race for an IRA national title during the first weekend in June at Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
