Princeton, N.J. - Former Princeton hockey player Scott Bertoli '99 is on the verge of winning an ECHL Kelly Cup Championship as a member of the Trenton Titans. The Titans currently hold a 2-0 edge over the Florida Everblades in the best-of-seven championship series and host games three, four and five this weekend. Bertoli is one of 12 Tigers that played pro hockey during the 2004-05 season.
Bertoli has spent the last 10 years playing hockey in Central New Jersey, four with Princeton, and six with Trenton. He has been a key member of the team since he graduated in the 1998-99 season. He has played 379 regular season games for the Titans in that span and has scored 131 goals. This season he led the team with 68 points and was in the top 10 in the league in scoring. Trenton appeared in the finals in the 2000-01 season, but fell 4-1 to South Carolina.
Bertoli won an ECAC Championship at Princeton in 1998, an Ivy League title in 1999 and appeared in the 1998 NCAA Tournament. He was one of 12 Princeton alums to suit up in professional action during the 2004-05 hockey season.
Jeff Halpern '99, a five-year National Hockey League veteran, appeared in 24 games between the Swiss A and B leagues during the season. He also played for the United States in the 2005 IIHF World Championship in Austria, scoring a goal in seven games played.
George Parros '03 played his second full season with American Hockey League's Manchester Monarchs. Parros had 14 goals in 67 games with the team and also skated in six playoff games.
Bertoli was one of five players to play full time in the ECHL. Chris Corrinet '01 skated for the Victoria Salmon Kings and Brad Parsons '02 played 63 games with the South Carolina Stingrays. Two members of the Class of 2004, Steve Slaton and Matt Maglione also appeared in the league. Maglione had stints in Pee Dee, Greenville and Wheeling, while Slaton finished the season with the Texas Wildcatters after a trade took him there from the Columbia Inferno. Additionally, David Del Monte '02, John Fust '94, David Schneider '02 and Dave Stathos '02 all played in Europe. Del Monte spent the year playing in Italy, Fust in Switzerland, while Schneider and Stathos were in Finland.
