PRINCETON, N.J. -- Navy scored four touchdowns in the first quarter on the way to a 58-0 win over the Princeton sprint football team Friday night at Princeton Stadium, dropping the Tigers to 0-5 on the year.
Lon Johnson led the Tigers with 56 yards receiving on six catches, the highlight of which was a 34-yard catch down the sideline.
A blocked punt on Princeton's first possession put Navy at the Tiger 9-yard line, and the Mids needed only one play to get Tommy Tellson a touchdown catch and a 7-0 lead after the PAT.
Navy scored again on its next possession when Richard Engel ran it in from seven yards. Princeton allowed Navy to start in Tiger territory following a turnover on downs and found itself in a 14-0 hole just over five minutes into the game.
Engel scored again with 7:49 left in the first quarter on a two-yard run set up earlier in the drive with a 49-yard scamper by Enrique Harris, giving Navy a 21-0 lead.
Navy went up 28-0 with 48 seconds left in the first quarter on a 23-yard TD pass to Matthew Mitchelson. It was the first scoring connection for Navy's second quarterback, D.J. Green. Chris Marsh, the Navy starter, finished 3-for-6 for 85 yards and a TD pass.
A.J. Storrs scored Navy's fifth touchdown with 12:42 left in the second quarter on a four-yard pitch, set up earlier in the drive by a 52-yard catch by Todd Barriger.
Steve Scarver's five-yard rush with 7:39 to play in the half staked Navy to a 42-0 lead. The Mids pushed the advantage to 49-0 with Steve Benson's 35-yard TD run less than two minutes before halftime.
Princeton quarterback Alex Kandabarow was called for a safety with 10:22 to go in the third quarter on an intentional grounding call in the end zone, pushing Navy to a 51-point lead. Jamie Fujimoto's two-yard pitch and run with 2:21 left in the third quarter gave the Mids a 58-0 lead.
Alfonso Meidus led Navy with 81 yards rushing. For Princeton, Kandabarow was 14-for-36 with one interception for 74 yards.
