Four Princeton Men's Soccer Players Earn All-Ivy Honors
November 09, 2006 | Men's Soccer
Four Princeton men's soccer players, led by first-team selection Jame Wunsch, were named to the 2006 All-Ivy teams in a vote of the league's eight head coaches announced Thursday.
Wunsch, a first-team All-Ivy pick for the second straight year, was the captain of the Tigers in 2006 and anchor a sturdy defense throughout his Princeton career. He also was involved in the Princeton offense in 2006, particularly on free kick and corner kick situations, and finished fourth on the team with seven points (two goals, three assists).
Princeton's two leading scorers also earned All-Ivy honors. Freshman Devin Muntz, who started every game but one and and had team highs of four goals and 11 points, and junior Kyle McHugh, who led the Tigers with 48 shots and four assists in 2006, were each second-team all-league picks.
Senior Zach Schwarz was an honorable mention All-Ivy pick for the Tigers. Schwarz, a forward earlier in his career, started every game at left back in 2006 to help lead the Tiger defense. He also scored a big goal in a win at Loyola.
League champion Harvard swept the major league awards, with senior Charles Altchek winning his second straight Ivy Player of the Year award and freshman Andre Akpan, the league's leading scorer, taking the Ivy Rookie of the Year award.
Princeton finished 6-8-3 overall in 2006 and 1-5-1 in Ivy League play.
