Swimming Squads Host 2006 Big Al Invitational This Weekend
December 01, 2006 | Men's Swimming and Diving, Women's Swimming and Diving
With the renovation of DeNunzio Pool complete, it is time to get down to some serious swimming this weekend. The 2006 Big Al Invitational will bring together eight men's teams and six women's teams to Central New Jersey for a three-day competition. While the diving events will be held at Rutgers, three days of swim sessions will begin Friday. All teams and event schedules can be found here.
The women's competition will bring together three of the top 30 programs in the country. Virginia is the highest-ranked squad, coming into the weekend at No. 20 with a 3-1 record. Local rival Rutgers, which is 4-0 on the season, is No. 22, and Princeton, which is 4-1 after last weekend's 2-0 Ivy start, is just outside the national Top 25 with a 26th-place ranking. Princeton's only loss came at the hands of No. 10 Michigan.
The top squads in the men's field will be No. 14 Tennessee (5-0) and No. 18 Virginia (4-1), both of which Princeton swam against last season. The Princeton men are 3-3 this season, with two losses to teams in the Top 30 (Michigan and Cornell).
