PRINCETON, N.J. - Thirteen Princeton fencers have qualified for the NCAA Regional to take place on Sat., Mar. 4 at Duke. Eight men and five women will make the trip with a berth in the NCAA Championships in Houston, Texas on the line. The list of participants was made available Wednesday.
Just over half of Princeton's delegation fences with the epee, as Ben Solomon, Tommi Hurme, Fenil Ghodadra and Max Peck compete for the men's team while Erin McGarry, Kira Hohensee and Jasjit Bhinder represent the women's squad.
At last year's regional competition, senior Solomon earned a fourth-place finish while sophomore Hurme placed fifth. McGarry was a second-place finisher while Hohensee took fourth. Bhinder, the only freshman in Princeton's party, makes her first NCAA Regionals appearance.
Douglas Hohensee, junior John-Paul Mitchell and senior Alexander Vandenberg-Rodes will represent the men's team in the foil, while Jacqueline Leahy, who will be in search of her fourth All-America honor this month, joins junior Sara Jew-Lim in the women's foil. Last year, Leahy won the regional competition while Jew-Lim placed 13th. Sophomore Hohensee placed 10th in last year's regional competition. Jonathan Winnerman is the lone saber traveling to North Carolina for the meet. Winnerman, a sophomore, placed 16th in the saber last year.
