CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The second half has belonged to the Princeton women's lacrosse team throughout its recent winning streak. Saturday against Harvard, the Tigers used yet another strong final 30 minutes to stay unbeaten in league play.
Kathleen Miller scored four goals in that second half, including consecutive ones in a two-minute span early in the half, and the Tigers pulled away with four goals in the final 10 minutes on the way to a 14-8 win over the Crimson in a game played at Jordan Field.
The 10th-ranked Tigers (7-4, 4-0 Ivy), who won their fifth straight game, pulled away for the win after a fourth-straight first half which saw Princeton either trail or be tied at the halftime break. The Tigers have allowed just nine goals in the second half in those four games while scoring 22 of their own.
Princeton led just 10-8 after Kaitlin Martin scored for Harvard (3-9, 1-2 Ivy) with 10:25 left in the game, but Katie Lewis-Lamonica's goal for the Tigers just 35 seconds later began the 4-0 Princeton run that ended the game.
Miller's two consecutive goals early in the half made it 9-6 Princeton. She also scored on a free-position shot early in the half that made it 7-5 and again with five minutes left to make it 13-8 Princeton.
Natalie Curtis scored a game-high five goals for Harvard, which lost to Princeton for the 14th consecutive season. Curtis scored three of her team's first four goals of the game, including one with 5:29 left in the first half that gave the Crimson a 4-3 lead.
Trailing by one late in the first half, Princeton tied the game at 5-5 at halftime when Massachusetts native Christine Casaceli scored an unassisted goal with 1:20 left. The Tigers, who also got 10 saves from junior goalie Colleen O'Boyle, led just once in the first half, 1-0, when Holly McGarvie scored 1:05 into the game. McGarvie had two goals and two assists along with five of Princeton's 14 draw controls.
Princeton also got a huge game from sophomore Ashley Amo, who scored twice to tie the game in the first half and again just 1:14 into the second half to give the Tigers the lead for good. Amo, who entered the game with one goal this season, had four goals on Saturday.
Lewis-Lamonica added two goals and a game-high three assists for Princeton, which outshot the Crimson 34-24.
Princeton, which clinched a winning Ivy League season for the 15th straight year thanks to Saturday's win, hosts Penn Wednesday night at Class of 1952 Stadium. The Tigers remain the lone Ivy team without a league loss in 2006.
