In a match that turned on a pair of three-setters. the 73rd-ranked Yale men's tennis team defeated Princeton, 5-2, in an Ivy League match played inside at Jadwin Gym Saturday afternoon.
Princeton's Alex Vuckovic defeated Rory Green at No. 5 singles in three sets to pull the Tigers within 3-2, but Yale won three-setters at both No. 3 and No. 6 to take the match. At No. 3, Jeff Dawson held off Andrew Lieu 7-5 in the third, while Rowan Reynolds held off Shannon Morales 7-6 in the third at No. 6.
The Tigers' other singles win came from Darius Craton, at No. 2, who won his second singles match in as many days with an impressive 6-3, 6-2 win over Milosz Gudzowski.
Yale won all three doubles matches to take the doubles point. Hans Plukas and Alex Krueger-Wyman had a tough 8-6 defeat to Brandon Wai and Gudzowski at No. 2 doubles.
Princeton is now 5-11 overall and 0-3 in Ivy League play. The Tigers travel to Dartmouth and Harvard next weekend.
