NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale women's tennis team used strong play at the top of its singles lineup to defeat Princeton, 5-2, in an Ivy League match Saturday afternoon in Connecticut.
Yale (6-7, 1-1 Ivy) won the top four singles matches, including tight matches at Nos. 4 and 2. At No. 4, Ashley Miles won the first set in a tiebreak and the second set by a 7-5 score over Christine Kansky. At No. 2, Aimee Kim won by scores of 6-4 and 6-4 over Jessica Siebel.
Princeton (7-8, 1-2 Ivy) got singles wins at both No. 5 and No. 6. At No. 5, Alison Hashmall lost just one game in a domination of Lilian Nguyen. At No. 6, Joanna Roth won in a tiebreak in the first set and defeated Christine Alford in the second set.
Yale took the doubles point by winning tight matches by 8-6 scores at Nos. 2 and 3. At No. 1 doubles, Siebel and King had a strong 8-2 win over Olivia Nix and Rashmee Patil.
The Tigers host Dartmouth and Harvard next weekend.
