National Hockey League Players
Princeton's presence in the National Hockey League continued in the 2009-10 season as the Tigers had three players appear at the NHL level during the season. Darroll Powe '07 appeared in the Stanley Cup finals with the Philadelphia Flyers. Powe, who became the first Tiger to appear in a Stanley Cup final series, played in his second season for the Flyers and scored nine goals and added six assists for 15 points in 63 games. He also played in all 23 Flyer playoff games and garnered one point, an assist in the opening game of the Stanley Cup Finals in Chicago.
Powe was one of three Tigers to appear in the NHL in the 2009-10 season and was joined by Jeff Halpern '99 and George Parros '03 playing at the top level of pro hockey. Halpern completed his 10th NHL season with the Los Angeles Kings after bring traded from Tampa Bay to the West Coast at the trade deadline. Halpern totaled nine goals and 10 assists for 20 points in 71 games between the two teams. Halpern has 131 goals and 185 assists for 316 points in 720 career games in the NHL.
Parros completed his fifth season in the NHL and his fourth with the Anaheim Ducks, the team with which he won a Stanley Cup in 2007. Parros name appears on the cup and he appeared in the playoffs, but not in the Cup Finals. This season Parros had four goals in 57 games played. Last season Kevin Westgarth '07 made his NHL debut with the Los Angeles Kings, playing in nine games. Westgarth played the full 2009-10 season in the AHL with the Manchester Monarchs.
Off the ice, Brent Flahr '96 has established himself as a prominent player in the NHL's upper management. Named the Assistant General Manager of the Minnesota Wild in July of 2009, Flahr has 15 years of experience working in an NHL front office. Along with his year in Minnesota, Flahr served as the Director of Hockey Operations with Ottawa for two years and spent four years as an amateur scout in the Anaheim Ducks organization, where he was a part of the team that won the 2007 Stanley Cup. Flahr spent 1996 to 2003 with the Florida Panthers in a variety of positions, including Assistant to the General Manager, and Scouting and Video Coordinator.
Chris Corrinet '01, a Capitals' fourth-round draft choice in 1998, appeared in eight NHL games in the 2001-02 season and tallied an assist. During that time, him and Halpern became the first Princeton alums to appear in the same NHL game as teammates.
Princeton classmates Andre Faust '92 and Mike McKee '92 became the first two Princeton alums to play on opposing teams in an NHL game.
McKee's Quebec Nordiques defeated Faust's Philadelphia Flyers 6-4 in Quebec City in January 1994. McKee scored a goal for the Nordiques, while Faust had an assist for the Flyers. Faust (NHL totals: 47gp, 10g, 7a) became the first Princeton graduate to score in the NHL, posting a goal in his first game. He later spent time in the Winnipeg Jets farm system. McKee (NHL totals: 48gp, 3g, 12a) had a regular shift on the blue line for the Nordiques after being called up from Cornwall of the AHL in November 1993. He finished the season with 15 points.
The two players were not the first Princetonians to skate in an NHL game, however. Ed Lee '84 played two games (no points) for the Nordiques in 1984-85. Syl M. Apps '70, the father of the Syl Apps '99, played freshman hockey at Princeton before enjoying a 10-year pro career with stops in New York, Los Angeles and Pittsburgh. Apps (NHL totals: 727gp, 183g, 423a) was an NHL All-Star Game MVP and later elected to the Penguins Hall of Fame.

The Princeton men's hockey team has seen 23 of its players drafted in the National Hockey League's entry draft since the draft began in 1963. Additionally, two Tigers were been selected in the supplemental draft, which occured up until 1994 when the draft rules were adjusted to include certain college players.
