Princeton Men's Golf Closes Season at NCAA Central Regionals

CHARDON, Ohio - The Princeton men's golf team wrapped up its 2006 spring season Saturday at the NCAA Central Regional at Sand Ridge Golf Club in Chardon, Ohio, finishing 26th. The top 10 teams qualified for the NCAA Championships in Oregon in two weeks. John Sawin shot an even-par 71 and Jason Gerken a 1-over 72 on day three.
Oklahoma State ran away from the field, winning the regional by 16 shots by shooting 7-under as a team on the weekend. Northwestern was in second place at 9-over, and Kentucky at +32 represented the cutoff for automatic qualification for the national tournament. Princeton was at +91 for the weekend.
Sawin (77-77-71-225) finished tied for 60th at +12 and birdied six holes Saturday. Gerken (82-76-72-230) was 17-over in a tie for 95th. Andrew Maliniak tied for 134th at +30 (81-79-83-243), while Jesse Dicon was 137th at +32 (84-79-82-245) and Brent Herlihy finished 141st at +50 (89-91-83-263).
The Tigers claimed their third straight Ivy crown in 2006 and 19th in the 32-season history of the Ivy League Championship tournament.
