Westgarth Brothers to Work Out with Flyers
August 23, 2006 | Men's Ice Hockey
Brothers Brett and Kevin Westgarth, both seniors on the Princeton men's hockey team, have been invited to the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers' rookie conditioning camp in early September. Since the two have eligibility remaining at Princeton, they are attending the camp as amateurs.
"The camp is a great opportunity personally, but also it offers us a great chance to show people what Princeton Hockey is all about," says Kevin Westgarth. "It also shows incoming freshman and recruits that you can have the best education in the world, as well as play some of the best hockey in the world. I hope that this opportunity that my brother and I have demonstrates the direction that the Princeton Hockey Program is taking, and that it is but a small taste of things to come."
Players at the camp will include Flyer rookies for last season, members of the Flyers minor league affiliates and other college and junior amateur players drafted by the Flyers over the last few years.
Brett Westgarth played in all 31 games for the Tigers last season after taking the 2004-05 season off from school. He was a steady player on the Tiger blueline and contributed three goals and 11 assists for 14 points, a career high, and the third-highest point total of Princeton defensemen.
Kevin Westgarth had career highs in goals (10), assists (13) and points (23) last season as he became an important piece of the Tiger offense. He ranked second on the team in total points and was one of only two members of the team to have a positive plus/minus.

The Princeton men's hockey season kicks off with an intersquad game on Oct. 15. Princeton's first regular season game is against Bentley on Oct. 27.
