Field Hockey Falls to Third-Ranked Old Dominion

PRINCETON -- Third-ranked Old Dominion used four goals in the second half to pull away and defeat the Princeton field hockey team 5-0 on Saturday afternoon at Class of '52 Stadium.
The game was tight throughout the first half despite a Monarch goal at 8:16. Caroline Nichols gained possession of the ball and lofted a shot that Princeton senior goalkeeper Allison Nemeth got a piece of with her blocker hand, but not enough as it ended up in the cage.
Princeton stayed close with Old Dominion after the goal, as shots were 10-5 in ODU's favor in the first half and the Monarchs had just one more penalty corner chance. Freshman Tina Bortz and junior Paige Schmidt each managed two shots on goal, but Old Dominion goalkeeper Kelly Driscoll made all four saves.
In the second half, Old Dominion scored on a penalty stroke early to start a three-goal outburst. Dana Sensenig scored on the stroke, followed by goals from Anna Rogers on a crossing pass, and Nicolien van Nispen, who shot in a loose ball in the circle. Darcy Pinchbeck closed the scoring when she took advantage of a Princeton turnover deep in the Tiger end.
Nemeth finished the game with 13 saves, including eight in the opening half, while Driscoll made four in the ODU cage.
Princeton falls to 3-3 with the loss while Old Dominion is now 8-1. Princeton visits Columbia tomorrow afternoon in Ivy League action. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
