Kinzer Scores Two in Win at Columbia
September 24, 2006 | Field Hockey
NEW YORK -- Sophomore Katie Kinzer scored at 28:43 to give the Princeton field hockey team a 2-1 lead, en route to a 4-1 victory at Columbia in Ivy League action on Sunday afternoon.
Princeton opened the scoring on a penalty corner 2:56 into the game. Junior Micaela Vie Brock began the play, pushing the ball to junior Nicole Ng, who left it for junior Paige Schmidt, who rocketed it into the goal for her first score of the season.
Columbia answered eight minutes later when Ariel Leon gathered the ball just outside the circle and sent a pass to a charging Laura Cosan, who put the ball in the middle left corner of the net for a goal.
Kinzer scored at the end of the first half when she put back the rebound of freshman's Tina Bortz's saved shot.
Princeton added insurance with two goals in a 2:20 span late in the second half. First, Vie Brock scored her second goal of the season mid-way through the second half when she deflected a corner shot by sophomore Sarah Reinprecht into the goal. Then Kinzer added her second goal of the season, again capitalizing on a rebound.
Senior goalkeeper Allison Nemeth made two saves for the win, while Columbia's Gena Miller stopped 10 Princeton shots.
Princeton is now 4-3 overall and 3-0 in the Ivy League. Princeton visits Cornell next Saturday afternoon.
