Monday Night Hockey
The Princeton men's hockey returns from its 15-day layoff for final exams on Monday Night when Robert Morris visits Baker Rink in the Tigers' final non-league game of the 2006-07 season.
Last Time Out
Princeton entered its final-exam break on a high note by winning its third overtime game of the season on Saturday, January 13 against Brown. Princeton dominated the shot charts all night but needed an 1:29 to pick up the win in overtime. Senior Grant Goeckner-Zoeller scored twice, including the game winner and classmate Daryl Marcoux scored the other Tiger goal. Senior B.J. Sklapsky picked up the win in goal.
Still Going Strong
Princeton's win over Brown moved the Tigers to 7-3-0 in their last 10 games and 8-3-1 in their last 12, a stretch that began with a 3-3 tie at Dartmouth the Friday after Thanksgiving. Princeton is 5-2-1 in league play and 3-1-0 in non-league action during that span.
Win Number 9
Princeton's win on Saturday night was Princeton's ninth of the season and came in its 20th game. Last season Princeton won 10 games with its win coming in its 23rd game. The Tigers' next win will match last season's win total.
The .500 Mark
Princeton's win on Saturday night brought the Tigers back to the .500 mark for the third time this season. Sitting at 9-9-2 the Tigers will look to go above .500 with a win tonight.
Scoring With Consistency
Princeton scored five goals its last weekend, with two coming on Friday and three on Saturday. Princeton has scored two or more goals in all but one game this season. Princeton and New Hampshire are the only two teams in the nation to be held under two goals only once this season.
But...
Princeton is the only team in the nation to have at least two goals scored against it in every game this season. The Tigers have gone 31 games dating back to a 3-0 shutout of Cornell last January since they have held an opponent to less than two goals. Princeton came within seconds of holding Quinnipiac to a single goal on two occasions, but an empty-netter and a last second goal spoiled those opportunities.
Too Close for Comfort
If it seems like most Princeton games come down to a single goal, it is because they do. Fourteen of Princeton's 20 games this season have been decided by a goal or ended in a tie, including both games the last time out. Of the other six games, five were decided by two goal margins and one had a four goal margin. Three of the two-goal games featured empty-net goals.
Home Stretch
Monday night's game concludes a stretch where Princeton played eight of nine games at home from mid-December until now. Princeton is 6-2 in those eight games and 5-2 at home in the span. After tonight, Princeton's eight remaining games are split evenly with four games at home and four on the road.
Recent Trips to Overtime
Princeton's win over Brown marked its third-straight win in overtime after being winless in its previous 27 trips to overtime. Princeton is unbeaten in its last four trips to the extra session, tying Dartmouth on the road on Nov. 24, the edging Union, Nebraska-Omaha and Brown in overtime at home.
More Overtime Thoughts
Princeton's trip to overtime against Brown was its seventh overtime game of the season, matching the Tigers total of last season. Princeton is 3-2-2 in overtime this year, and was 0-4-3 in overtime last year.
The Opponents
The Series With Robert Morris
Princeton and Robert Morris met for the first time last season, with the Colonials skating to a 5-2 win at home. Like this season, the game came immediately following Princeton's exam break. Princeton fell behind in the game when RMU scored with 11 seconds left in the first period and extended its lead with a second period goal. The Tiger got a goal from Patrick Neundorfer early in the third to make the score 2-1, but a quick Colonial goal gave RMU a 3-1 lead. The game then had three goals scored in its final three minutes as RMU added two empty-netters and Grant Goeckner-Zoeller scored an extra-attacker goal.
Scouting the Colonials
Robert Morris is 8-13-1 overall and 5-7-0 in College Hockey America. The Colonials enter Monday's game having lost their last three games, splitting two weekend's ago at Alabama-Huntsville and being swept last weekend at Wayne State.Robert Morris went 3-1-1 in its previous five games to the recent skid, winning at top-five ranked Notre Dame and taking three points from Merrimack at home.
Common Opponents
Robert Morris shares three common opponents with Princeton. The Colonials opened the season be being swept at Quinnipiac, the lost a game at Cornell, and have split three series with Alabama-Huntsville. Princeton split with Quinnipiac and UAH, and dropped its only game with Cornell.
League vs. League
The ECACHL and College Hockey America are 9-9 against each other this season. The ECACHL held the edge most of the season but Niagara's two wins last weekend over Quinnipiac brought the records to .500. Princeton is 1-1 against the CHA, while Robert Morris is 0-3 against the ECACHL.
Non-League Schedule Update
Princeton is 3-2-1 in non-league play this season following a New Year's weekend sweep of Nebraska-Omaha and Minnesota State. The Tigers opened the year with a tie and loss to Bentley and split with Alabama-Huntsville in early December. Robert Morris is Princeton's last non-league opponent of this season. Last season Princeton was 3-4-0 in non-league play, defeating UAH, Notre Dame and Denver.
All Even, Home and Away
Princeton's overall record of 9-9-2 is at .500, and that is evenly split at home and away. Princeton is 5-5-0 on its home ice, 4-4-1 on the road and 0-0-1 at neutral sites this season.
Streaky On the Home Ice
Princeton's win over Brown snapped a two-game losing skid on home ice. That was preceded by a four game winning streak at home, which followed a three-game losing skid at home to open the season. Princeton closed last season by going 4-1-1 in its final six home games.
Ranked Teams
Princeton's win against Quinnipiac on Jan. 9 was its second win of the season over a ranked team. The Tigers are 2-2-1 in their five games against ranked teams, defeating Clarkson and Quinnipiac, losing to Cornell and Quinnipiac and tying Dartmouth. Clarkson, ranked 11th at the time, is the highest ranked team Princeton has played. Clarkson is currently ranked ninth in the nation.
Twenty-seven of Princeton's 62 goals this season have come on special teams, including power-play goals in both games the last weekend Princeton played. Princeton has 24 power-play goals and three shorthanded goals this season.
On the Power Play
Operating at a 17.9% efficiency, Princeton's power-play currently ranks fifth in the ECACHL and 24th in the nation.
Staying Out of the Box
Princeton is the fourth-least penalized team in the nation, averaging 12.7 penalty minutes per game and the least penalized team in the ECAC Hockey League. Princeton is averaging three penalties less per game this season than last and the Tigers average has dropped following each of the last six games. Here is a list of the five least penalized teams in the nation.
55. Princeton 12.7
Air Force 12.7
57. Massachusetts 11.4
58. St. Cloud State 11.2
59. UMass-Lowell 10.2
With a Two Man Advantage
Princeton converted on its first 5-on-3 power play in the Rensselaer win. The Tigers had been held goalless in nine previous chances, but had allowed five two-man advantage goals. Princeton also scored with the two-man advantage against Minnesota State and is now 2-for-12 in 5-on-3s while opponents are 5-for-11 against Princeton.
Lots of Shots
Princeton outshot both Yale and Brown in its last weekend playing, snapping a four-game stretch where the Tigers had not outshot an opponent. Princeton has outshot 14 of 20 opponents this season, been outshot four times and had shots even twice. Last season Princeton outshot its opponents in 13 of 31 games. Princeton had 42 shots in the Brown win, marking the fifth time this season the Tigers have put 40 or more shots on goal.
Spreading the Puck Around
Princeton has received points this season from 20 of its 24 skaters. Eighteen different players have scored goals and 18 players have tallied assists. Every player that has appeared in at least half the games has recorded a point.
Scoring More…
Princeton has scored 81 goals in each of the past two seasons. Last season the Tigers did it despite the graduation of two of its top-three scorers from the previous season. That number is 19 more than the total of 62 that Princeton scored in 31 games two seasons ago. Princeton is on pace to score 96 goals in 31 games this year.
Individual Notes
Topping the Charts
Sophomore Lee Jubinville notched an assist in Princeton's loss to Yale to jump to the top of the Tiger scoring charts with 17 points. He has six goals and 11 assists in 19 games.
Knocking on the Door
Senior Darroll Powe leads the Tigers with nine goals and is second on the team with 16 points. He is one of three Tigers with two game winners and leads the team with five power-play goals.

Closing in on 100
Goeckner-Zoeller's two points against Brown pushed him to 97 points for his career and he sits just three points away from reaching the 100-point mark for his career. The last Princeton players to reach 100 points were Jeff Halpern and Scott Bertoli who both reached the mark in the 1998-99 season.
Breaking Out
Sophomore Brett Wilson added to his point total by setting up both of Goeckner-Zoeller's goals against Brown. He now has 14 points on the season and seven points in his last five games.
Cam Can
Freshman Cam MacIntyre was the lone Tiger to tally points in both Tiger games over the weekend. On Friday he scored on the power-play against Yale and on Saturday, he notched an assist on Goeckner-Zoeller's first goal for his first assist of the season. He has five points this season.
A Long Time Coming
Senior Daryl Marcoux opened the scoring for the Tigers in the Brown in with his first goal of the season and his first since his sophomore year of 2004-05 when he found the back of the net on two occasions. He became the fourth Princeton defenseman to score a goal this season.

Reaching 10
Freshman Dan Bartlett scored in Princeton's loss to Yale, scoring his fifth goal of the season and gaining his ninth point of the year. He is a point away from 10 for the season and would become the eighth Tiger to reach that mark this season.
In the Crease
Senior goaltender B.J. Sklapsky made 20 saves to defeat Brown in Princeton's last game. It was his second of the season and second-in-a-row after defeating Minnesota State on Dec. 30. He is 2-2-0 this season with a 3.26 goals-against average.
Polling Station
Princeton was picked to finish 10th by both the coaches and the media in the ECACHL preseason polls for the second straight season. Princeton currently sits in a tie for fourth in the league standings. The Tigers finished ninth in the ECAC Hockey League standings a season ago.
Around the ECACHL
While Princeton has been off for exams and its travel-partner Quinnipiac has played in non-league action, the remaining teams in the league have had the chance to make up the games in hand so that the standings finally look representative. A full slate of league games begins on Friday with Rensselaer and Union visiting Harvard and Dartmouth, St. Lawrence and Clarkson heading to Cornell and Colgate and Princeton and Quinnipiac facing Yale and Brown.
On the Horizon
Princeton begins its four-week race to the finish of the regular season with games at Brown and Yale next weekend. Princeton split with the pair earlier this season at home and took three points from the pair on the road last season.
