October 12, 2007 | Sprint Football
Elliot Corey threw three touchdown passes, including two in the second quarter to Matt Malleo, to lead the Cornell sprint football team to a 34-0 victory over Princeton at Schoellkopf Field Friday night.
The Tigers limited Cornell to just 278 yards and had a 33:36-21:22 advantage in time of possession, but the Big Red took advantage of short fields to take a 21-0 lead at halftime.
Cornell drove 40 yards in five plays midway through the second quarter and went ahead 14-0 when Corey found Malleo for a 13-yard score. The Big Red then got the ball on the Princeton 29 with 31 seconds left in the half, and Corey found Malleo in the end zone from 10 yards out 17 seconds later to make it 21-0.
Quarterback Drew Dixon, in the lineup in place of injured starter Alex Kandabarow, performed admirably for the Tigers, He completed 11 of 33 pass attempts on the evening, including a 22-yard strike to Lon Johnson. Johnson had five catches for 65 yards on the night.
Mike Schoder had a nice game on the ground for the Tigers, busting a 38-yard run and 64 total yards on just five carries.
Princeton reached the Cornell seven-yard line in the first quarter after an impressive 13-play, 80-yard drive, which included those two big plays, but a field-goal attempt was blocked.
