Women's Swimming/Diving Debuts As Only Ivy Program In National Top 25 Rankings
October 24, 2007 | Women's Swimming and Diving
Following two straight Ivy League championships and an exciting showing at the NCAA Championships by sophomore Alicia Aemisegger, the Princeton women's swimming and diving team is earning national recognition. Princeton will enter the 2007-08 season ranked 24th in the first College Swim Coaches Association of America national poll.
Princeton, which opens its season Nov. 9 at home against Oakland University, earned 47 points in the first coaches poll, two points behind No. 23 Indiana. Princeton is the only Ivy League program ranked in the poll, including teams receiving votes. The Tigers will face off against two teams currently in the poll during the Big Al Open, held at DeNunzio Pool from Nov. 30 through Dec. 2. No. 17 Penn State and Rutgers, which narrowly missed a spot in the Top 25, will be part of another strong field during the men's and women's three-day competition.
Princeton, led by veteran head coach Susan Teeter, has won 17 Ivy League championships, including seven of the last eight. Co-captains Lisa Hamming and Catherine Wolpe will lead a strong team, which includes former championship weekend standouts Aemisegger, Justina DiFazio, Ellen Gray and Katie Giarra.
