Men's Hockey Defeats Cornell 3-2
November 02, 2007 | Men's Ice Hockey
ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Princeton men's hockey team improved to 2-0 on the young season and opened the ECAC Hockey slate with a 3-2 win at Cornell on Friday night as Princeton picked up its first win at Lynah Rink since the 1994-95 season. Junior Lee Jubinville and sophomore Cam MacIntyre both had three points in the win.
Princeton never trailed in the win as the Tigers scored first and then answered back each time Cornell scored. Princeton opened the scoring 6:09 into the win when the Tiger line of Jubinville, MacIntyre and junior Brett Wilson connected for their first of three goals on the night. MacIntyre worked the puck low to Wilson who fed Jubinville atop the far circle. Jubinville wound up and took a shot that Cornell netminder Troy Davenport got part of, but not enough as it gave Princeton a 1-0 lead.
The Tigers took that lead to the lockerroom and after Topher Scott scored on a breakaway at 7:05 of the second, regained the lead on a power-play goal from Jubinville at 12:37. MacIntyre and Wilson each took swipes at a bouncing puck near the crease before Jubinville stuffed it in.
Cornell again tied the score in the third period when Evan Barlow scored on a rebound at 11:32, but the Tigers silenced the Cornell crowd when MacIntyre answered back with a long wrist shot that beat Davenport through the legs with 3:42 remaining in the game. Jubinville, who stripped the puck from a Cornell player, fed him with the puck.
Princeton sophomore goaltender Zane Kalemba made 26 saves to record the win, while Davenport made 19 saves in the loss.
Princeton returns to action tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Colgate.
