Westgarth and Magnowski Take ECACHL Weekly Honors
February 26, 2007 | Men's Ice Hockey
Princeton senior Kevin Westgarth and freshman Mark Magnowski were named the ECAC Hockey League's Player and Rookie of the Week on Monday for their performances during Princeton's weekend sweep of Clarkson and St. Lawrence, the league's top-two teams. Westgarth had seven points over the weekend and Magnowski had four, as the pair took home Princeton's first weekly awards of the season.
Westgarth had a hand in seven of Princeton's 11 goals over the weekend. On Friday night, Westgarth recorded two goals and three assists. He set up the Tigers second, third and fourth goals as Princeton jumped out to a 4-0 lead after a period. He then made the score 5-0 with a goal early in the second period and capped the scoring with a power-play goal in the third period. A day later, he set up Princeton's first two goals in a 4-1 win over St. Lawrence. His first assist came on the power play as Princeton evened the score at 1-1, and his second set up freshman Cam MacIntyre's game winner early in the third period. Westgarth set up both game winners over the weekend and tallied a third of season point total of 21 during the weekend.
Magnowski, an honor roll selection multiple times this season, put together back-to-back two point games in Princeton's sweep. On Friday night, he notched a pair of helpers in the Tigers 7-1 win. The following afternoon, he posted an assist on the game-winning goal, then scored an insurance goal late on the power-play as Princeton won 4-1 over league regular season champion St. Lawrence. The points lifted his total to 20 in his rookie campaign.
Westgarth, Magnowski and their Princeton teammates return to the ice on Friday night at 7 p.m., when ECACHL playoff hockey returns to Baker Rink for the first time since 1999. Princeton hosts a three-game series with Brown with the winner advancing to the ECACHL quarterfinals.
