Michelle DeMond Picks Up Second All-America Honor For Princeton; Aemisegger Places 15th In 200 Breast Consolation Final
March 10, 2007 | Women's Swimming and Diving
A terrific weekend for the Princeton women's swimming and diving team got even better during the afternoon session of the final day at the 2007 NCAA Championships in Minneapolis. Senior diver Michelle DeMond capped her career with an All-America honorable mention distinction by finishing 16th in the platform competition. Freshman teammate Alicia Aemisegger also qualified for the 200 breast consolation final, where she placed 15th overall with a time of 2:13.40.
DeMond earned her All-America honor by finishing 10th in the preliminary competition with 266.85 points. By reaching the consolation final, she automatically clinched the honor, and she ended her career with a 16th-place finish overall in the finals (214.00 points).
Aemisegger placed 15th in the 200 breast consolation final after finishing 16th in the preliminaries (2:13.97). By not finishing one spot lower in the preliminaries, Aemisegger clinched All-America honorable mention, her third All-America honor of the weekend. She also claimed the final two points for Princeton, which finished 24th overall with 36 team points. Aemisegger scored 35 of those points, while DeMond added one point with her All-America diving performance.
The NCAA Championships ended another banner year for the Princeton women's swimming and diving team, which claimed its 17th Ivy League title, swept its league competition during the regular season and finished the year in the Top 25 of the national coaches poll. While several talented swimmers from the Class of 2007 have swam their final meet in Orange and Black, head coach Susan Teeter will return several top scorers from the 2007 Ivy championships, including Aemisegger, Ellen Gray, Justina DiFazio, Katie Giarra and Lisa Hamming, among many others.
