Penn State Rallies For 8-7 Win over Princeton in Women's Lacrosse

Penn State scored six straight goals in an 11-minute span of the second half to take control and then held on in the final minute to defeat Princeton, 8-7, in a women's lacrosse game played at Class of 1952 Stadium Saturday evening.
The 13th-ranked Lions (5-1) trailed 5-2 after Princeton's Katie Cox scored 1:10 into the second half but then began their game-changing run. Lindsay Dutch and Mariel Bryan scored unassisted goals in a 58-second span to make it 5-4 and force a Tiger timeout, and Penn State would then tie the game at 5-5 with 20 minutes left on Jessi Lieb's goal. Dutch then had the go-ahead goal two minutes later and an assist on Megan McGuire's goal 54 seconds after that, and the Lions would go ahead 8-5 when Bryan scored again with 15 minutes left.
No. 8 Princeton (2-2) pulled within 8-7 with 2:12 left when Katie Lewis-Lamonica scored in front thanks to a pass from Holly McGarvie. The Tigers then had possession in the final minute after a Penn State turnover, but Kathleen Miller's game-tying shot attempt was blocked and Lieb picked up the ground ball. Penn State then ran out the clock in the Princeton end.
The Tigers, who led 4-2 at halftime, had pulled within 8-6 when Ashley Amo scored in front with 9:54 left. Princeton had several other good chances to score in the final 10 minutes, but PSU goalie Cammie Jurkowsky made three of her nine saves in that time to help keep her team in front.
Dutch had a game-high three goals for Penn State, while Lieb scored twice. Lewis-Lamonica and Amo each had two goals for Princeton.
Both teams played patiently in the early part of the game on a cold, windy day, and the game would remain scoreless for nearly 17 minutes until Amo put the Tigers ahead at the 13:05 mark of the first half. Mary Minshall, who had the assist on Amo's goal, then scored less than three minutes later to put the Tigers ahead 2-0.
Princeton would take a 3-1 lead when Lewis-Lamonica scored with 9:12 left in the half and take a 4-1 advantage on freshman Kristin Morrison's low speeder past Jurkowsky with 3:34 on the clock.
Kaitlyn Perrelle had six saves in goal for Princeton, including two on free-position shot attempts. Princeton outshot the Lions 23-22.
Cox added a goal and an assist for the Tigers, who host Loyola Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The game will be played at Princeton Stadium and will be televised live by ESPNU.
