Darroll Powe Signs With AHL?s Philadelphia Phantoms
March 21, 2007 | Men's Ice Hockey
Princeton senior forward Darroll Powe recently signed with the American Hockey League's Philadelphia Phantoms, the top minor league affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers. Powe will join the Phantoms for the remainder of their 2006-07 season.
Powe signed an Amateur Tryout contract, which allows a team to sign a college player after the college season ends and after the league's trade deadline. Powe's new team, the Phantoms, have a month left in their regular season before the beginning of the playoffs.
"I am excited at the opportunity I have been given and look forward to the challenge of playing pro hockey,” said Powe. “I would like to thank Guy Gadowsky and the entire Princeton Hockey program for constantly pushing me to better myself as a player and as a person. I hope that this adds to Princeton's growing reputation as one of the best hockey programs in the country."
Powe served as the team's captain as a senior and led the team in scoring with 13 goals. He ranked second overall in points with 28. During his Princeton career, Powe recorded 60 points in 120. This year he was named the team's Most Valuable Player. He becomes the second member of Princeton hockey's Class of 2007 to sign a pro contract. Last week, Kevin Westgarth signed with the Los Angeles Kings and is playing for their AHL team.
“I truly have never seen a better leader by example than Darroll Powe,” said Gadowsky. “His impact on the culture and standards of this program has been extreme. On the ice, Darroll is as fast and as powerful a skater as anyone in college hockey. We wish him the very best in his pro career.”
