No. 6 Penn State Sweeps Princeton 3-0
March 30, 2007 | Men's Volleyball
It's been nearly a decade since the Princeton men's volleyball team took a single game off Penn State in State College, Pa. While that streak held true Friday night in a 3-0 win for the No. 6 Nittany Lions, the Tigers still have a strong chance to get one more chance at Penn State if it can clinch the second seed in the EIVA tournament.
Princeton fell to 8-7 overall, 6-4 in the EIVA Tait Division, with a 30-25, 30-24, 30-24 loss to Penn State. The Nittany Lions are now 16-5, 9-0 in the division, and need only one more win to clinch the top seed and home court advantage in the EIVA playoffs.
Sophomore Phillip Rosenberg led Princeton with eight kills, while fellow outside Peter Eichler added seven. Sophomore Mike Vincent, a former EIVA Player of the Week, added six kills and five blocks in the loss. The Tigers hit only .065 for the match and led only once in each game.
Princeton will need to bounce back Saturday in an important match at East Stroudsburg, which the Tigers defeated 3-0 earlier this season. A win would move Princeton to 9-4 and likely give it a chance to clinch the all-important second seed when it travels to George Mason April 14.
