Women's Lacrosse Visits Duke for Top 10 Test
March 09, 2007 | Women's Lacrosse
Two of the most explosive offensive units in Division I women's lacrosse meet Sunday afternoon when No. 9 Princeton visits No. 4 Duke for an early-season Top 10 battle at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C. Game time is 1 p.m.
Princeton (2-0) scored six goals in the first six minutes in a 19-10 rout of Rutgers Wednesday night, when it got a career-high six goals from Katie Lewis-Lamonica and five goals from Kathleen Miller. Duke (4-1) is averaging more than 15 goals per game in its first five games, including 18 in a loss to Maryland last weekend.
Miller needs just one goal to reach 100 for her career at Princeton and needs 10 points to move into the top 10 in school history. Her 54 career assists are good for eighth on the team's all-time list.
Nine players had at least two points in Princeton's nine-goal win against Rutgers Wednesday. Freshman Kristin Morrison had two goals and an assist for her first career points, while Christine Casaceli and Katie Cox also had two goals for Princeton, which scored on 19 of its 30 shots.
The Tigers have scored on nearly half (30 of 62) of their shots through two games, and half of Princeton's goals have come via an assist.
Princeton has won 12 of its last 14 games dating back to March of last season.
Caroline Cryer leads the Blue Devils with 19 goals and 23 points through five games. Tewaaraton Trophy candidate Kristen Waagbo has 10 goals and a team-high 10 assists for Duke.
Princeton and Duke have played in the regular season in each of the last nine years, with the Tigers holding a 6-3 advantage in those nine games. Princeton also defeated Duke in the first round of the 2000 NCAA tournament.
The Blue Devils defeated the Tigers last season by a 13-11 score in a game played at Princeton Stadium. Duke scored the first five goals of the second half to break open a one-goal game at halftime.
