March 09, 2007 | Women's Swimming and Diving
One day after freshman Alicia Aemisegger placed third in the NCAA 500 free championship final, the Germantown Academy product went one step further. Aemisegger topped the pool record in her 400 IM final, but fellow freshman Ava Ohlgren of Auburn also topped the pool record, and she did just a bit faster.
Aemisegger, who qualified for the finals with the fastest time in the field, finished her second NCAA final with a time of 4:04.80, less than a second behind Ohlgren's winning time of 4:04.08. The third-place time of Stanford's Julia Smit was more than one second behind Aemisegger's time (4:06.10), while Auburn junior Julia Stepp's fourth-place time was 4:07.32.

She will try to add to that time Saturday in the 200 breast, where she qualified with the 16th-best time in the country.
Teammate Michelle DeMond also competed Friday in the 3-meter diving competition, finishing 34th with 264.65 points.
