Volleyball Falls At George Mason, Will Host Quarterfinal Matchup Next Weekend
April 14, 2007 | Men's Volleyball
The Princeton men's volleyball team watched its opportunity to earn a free pass to the EIVA semifinals evaporate in a 3-0 loss at divisional rival George Mason. The good news for the Tigers is that they can earn that pass next weekend when they host the winner of the Juniata/Springfield match in an EIVA quarterfinal showdown.
Peter Eichler led the Tigers with 13 kills, while two other players recorded double-digit kills (Reid Joseph, 12; Phillip Rosenberg, 10). Brandon Denham recorded a double-double with 44 assists and 10 digs, while Eichler had two of Princeton's four aces. Princeton's defense was unable to slow down the George Mason attack; led by William Price's 19 kills, the Patriots hit .319 for the match.
Princeton fell to 11-9, 6-6 in the EIVA Tait Division, with a 30-28, 30-24, 30-24 loss to George Mason (11-9, 7-5). The win pushes George Mason to the three seed, just behind St. Francis, while the Tigers will enter the EIVA playoffs as the fourth seed. Fifth-seeded Juniata will take on Springfield, the second-place team in the Hay Division, during the middle of the week, and the winner will head to Dillon Gym during the weekend for a semifinal match. GoPrincetonTigers.com will announce the official time and date of the match when it is determined.
Princeton and Springfield did not play this season, while the Tigers split a pair of matches with Juniata. Both matches went five games, with each home team claiming the victory.
