Six Princeton Fencers on All-Ivy Team
April 02, 2007 | Men's Fencing
PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Ivy League has announced its
all-league selections, and six Princeton fencers have been honored.
That number bests by one the total from 2006, when five Tigers
qualified for league honors.
The league made its selections solely on the fencers' records in Ivy League bouts. The top three win-loss records, plus ties, were named to the first team and the next three were named to the second team.
Junior ep?eist Tommi Hurme
qualified for the first team for the first time in his career,
compiling an 11-4 record in Ivy bouts. His brother, freshman Edward
Hurme, made the second team in the ep?e with a record of 10-5. Tommi
Hurme also qualified for the NCAA Championships, finishing 13th in his
weapon.
Also qualifying for the second team was junior foilist Douglas Hohensee, with a record of 10-5.
Two Princeton women were named first-team all-league, with freshman Jocelyn Svengsouk getting the honor in the foil at 13-5 and sophomore Jasjit Bhinder doing so in the ep?e at 14-4.
Senior Erin McGarry qualified for the second team in the ep?e with a 13-4 record. All three Princeton women honored by the Ivy League also competed at the NCAA Championships, where Svengsouk placed 12th, McGarry 13th and Bhinder 21st.
