Women's Tennis Defeats Cornell, 5-2, In Season Finale

The Princeton women's tennis team concluded its season on a four-match winning streak thanks to a 5-2 victory over Cornell Sunday in the final home match for seniors Darcy Robertson, Joanna Roth and Laura Trimble.
Princeton finishes its 2007 season with a 13-7 overall record and a 5-2 mark in Ivy League play.
Roth was a winner in singles for Princeton at No. 6, coming back from losing the first set to defeat Shanya Miller in a tiebreak after winning the second set. Robertson was a winner in doubles for the Tigers at No. 1, helping the Tigers win the doubles point by joining Sarah Huah to win 8-4 over Cornell's Elizabeth Googe and Nisha Suda.
After winning the doubles thanks to a 9-7 win at No. 2 by Blakely Ashley and Ivana King, Princeton would clinch the match with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles from junior Ivana King. The Tigers also got straight-set singles wins from Ashley at No. 4 and at No. 2 from Melissa Saiontz, who lost only four games in a win over Kasia Preneta.
King lost just two of her 19 matches at the Nos. 1 and 2 singles positions this spring.
The Tigers concluded their spring season with wins over Dartmouth, Harvard, Columbia and Cornell. The wins came by a combined score of 25-3, and the Tigers lost just two of the 24 singles matches in those four wins.
