Rosenberg, Eichler Lead Men's Volleyball To 3-1 Win Over NJIT At Dillon Gym

Phil Rosenberg hit .414 for the match and had 17 kills and team highs of 12 digs and four aces to lead the Princeton men's volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over NJIT in an EIVA match played at Dillon Gym Friday night.
Game scores were 30-24, 28-30, 30-22 and 30-22 in favor of the Tigers, who improved to 10-8 on the season. NJIT fell to 16-7.
The Tigers recovered from hitting .167 in Game 2 to hit better than .300 combined in the final two games. Peter Eichler had a match-high 19 kills overall, while Mike Vincent had 12 kills and hit .348 from the middle.
With the match tied at 1-1 and the score tied 19-19 in the third game, Eichler had two straight kills and Brandon Denham had an ace in a four-point run that gave Princeton control. The Tigers would then score the final six points of the game, with the final point coming from Eichler.
Eichler also ended the match with a soft tip ball in Game 4. Princeton trailed early in the game but pulled away in the end thanks to the hitting of Rosenberg and Reid Joseph.
Princeton hit .314 in the first game, including Eichler's five kills without an error, and never trailed in the game that Rosenberg ended with a kill. NJIT was within 11-10 early in the game but the Tigers scored six straight points after that to take control, two of them coming on aces from Eichler.
NJIT's Amobi Armstrong, who had a team-high 18 kills, would catch fire in the second game to lead the Highlanders match-tying win. He had two kills in a four-point run early in the game to give his a team a lead that it would never relinquish. The Tigers rallied on Eichler's serve late in the game, pulling within 29-28, but the Princeton junior's serve was out on the next point to give the Highlanders the 30-28 victory.
Princeton hit .281 for the match and had nine aces, while NJIT had just four aces and 20 service errors.
The Tigers will host Stevens Tech at Dillon Gym next Tuesday.
