Women's Lacrosse Visits Maryland To Begin Key Final Week of Regular Season
May 01, 2007 | Women's Lacrosse
The Princeton women's lacrosse team can't control what's in the past or what the NCAA tournament selection committee will announce on Monday. But the Tigers can control what happens on the field this week against two top 10 opponents, the first of which is No. 5 Maryland Wednesday night in College Park.
Wednesday's game begins at 7 p.m. at Ludwig Field, not at the Field Hockey/Lacrosse Complex as originally scheduled. A live audio broadcast with Ed Benkin will be available at GoPrincetonTigers.com (see above link).
The No. 11 Tigers (9-5) have won three straight by a combined score of 48-19, and they face a Terp team (14-3) that earned the top seed in last weekend's ACC tournament but fell to eventual tourney champion Virginia 10-7 in the semifinals.
NCAA tournament selections will be announced on Monday night at 8 p.m. ET, and the Tigers will be hoping for one of the eight at-large bids available in the field of 16. Princeton has reached each of the last nine NCAA tournaments and 14 of the last 15 tournaments.
Princeton has won five of its last six games against Maryland since the beginning of the 2002 season, with the only loss in that stretch a 13-12 overtime thriller at Ludwig Field two seasons ago. Katie Lewis-Lamonica, then a freshman, had five goals in that game to lead Princeton back from a late deficit to force overtime.
The Tigers came from behind to defeat the Terps 9-8 last season in Princeton. Each of the last three regular-season games between the teams has been decided by one goal.
