Three Tigers Earn First-Team All-Ivy Honors in Women's Lacrosse
May 11, 2007 | Women's Lacrosse
Three Princeton women's lacrosse players earned first-team All-Ivy honors in a vote of the league's head coaches announced Friday, including a pair of unanimous selections in senior Kathleen Miller and junior Katie Lewis-Lamonica.
Junior Norris Novak also earned first-team All-Ivy honors for the Tigers, one of three Ivy League teams (along with Penn and Yale) that will be competing in the NCAA tournament beginning Sunday.
Miller leads Princeton with 62 points in 2007, and she was a unanimous first-team selection for the second straight season. Lewis-Lamonica, who leads Princeton offensively with 46 goals and defensively with 32 caused turnovers, earns first-team all-league honors for the first time.
Novak, Princeton's top defender and an all-region pick a year ago, ranks among the team leaders with 25 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers this season. The Tigers rank in the top 10 nationally in fewest goals allowed per game.
Sophomore Katie Cox was a second-team All-Ivy selection for the Tigers, who finished 5-2 in league play in 2007. Cox has scored 14 goals on just 25 shots this season and also ranks among the team leaders with 11 assists, 23 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers.
Princeton also earned a pair of honorable mention all-league selections in senior defender Caitlin Reimers, a tri-captain who has started all 72 games in a Princeton uniform, and sophomore midfielder Holly McGarvie, the 2006 Ivy League Rookie of the Year who ranks third on the 2007 team with 22 goals and 36 points and leads the team with 35 draw controls.
Yale's Lauren Taylor, the Ivy League's leading scorer, was named the league's Player of the Year, while Penn's Ali DeLuca was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year.
The Tigers will play at Virginia in Sunday's NCAA first round at 1 p.m. at Klockner Stadium. Princeton is 6-0 in first-round games since the tournament expanded to 16 teams in 2001.
