May 25, 2007 | Men's Ice Hockey
Senior men's hockey captain Darroll Powe signed an American Hockey League contract with the Philadelphia Phantoms for the 2007-08 season. Powe finished the 2006-07 season with the Phantoms after completing the Princeton season and will return to the club next season.
Powe signed an amateur tryout offer with the Phantoms on March 20 following the completion of his senior season at Princeton. He appeared in 11 games for the Phantoms, posting four points on two goals and two assists to go along with 20 penalty minutes.
“We were pleased with what we saw out of Darroll after he joined the club in March,” Philadelphia Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said. “He's a gritty player who will bring some toughness to our lineup, as well as the ability to contribute offensively.” The Phantoms are the top minor league affiliate of the National Hockey League's Flyers.
Powe finished second on the team in scoring in his senior year at Princeton, posting career highs of 13 goals and 15 assists for 28 points in 34 games. He led the team with eight power play goals last year and was a plus-3 on the season.
Powe was a second-team All-Ivy selection as a senior and won the team's Blackwell Trophy as the team's Most Valuable Player, and the Vaughan Cup, for dedication and perseverance to the team.
In four years at Princeton, Powe amassed 28 goals and 32 assists for 60 points in 120 career games, while accumulating 226 PIM.
