Princeton, Georgetown Conclude Regular Season With Big Game Sunday Afternoon
May 04, 2007 | Women's Lacrosse
The women's lacrosse teams from both Princeton and Georgetown are used to playing important games in May. Sunday's matchup between the teams at Class of 1952 Stadium, on the last day of the Division I regular season, certainly qualifies.
Sunday's 1 p.m. meeting between the Tigers and Hoyas is, without a doubt, a game that's ripe with NCAA tournament implications. Neither team has missed the tournament since the 1997 season, a season that also marked the beginning of a great rivalry between the teams that has seen nine of the 12 games decided by two goals or fewer.
The game will be televised live by Patriot 8 in the Princeton area, and a live video stream will be available at the TigerZone at GoPrincetonTigers.com in addition to a free live audio broadcast.
No. 11 Princeton (9-6) plays its regular-season finale four days after a thrilling overtime game at No. 5 Maryland, a game that saw 11 ties before the Terps won 13-12 in sudden victory overtime. The Tigers return home to Class of 1952 Stadium, where they have a 5-1 record this season and have outscored those six opponents 90-40.
Sunday is also Senior Day, and Princeton's six senior players, as well as team manager Nate Franks, will be recognized in a pregame ceremony. The Tigers have won 53 of 71 games in the past four years and won Ivy League championships in 2004 and 2006.
Princeton's six seniors are attackers Alex Gangler and Mary Minshall, defender Christine Dobrosky, and team tri-captains Colleen O'Boyle, Kathleen Miller and Caitlin Reimers.
No. 8 Georgetown (10-7) last played this past Sunday, when the Hoyas fell to Syracuse 12-7 in the BIG EAST championship game at the Carrier Dome. Senior Coco Stanwick ranks second in NCAA Division I with 60 goals and fifth in the country with 84 points.
NCAA tournament selections will be announced on Mon., May 7, at 8 p.m. in a live webcast at www.ncaasports.com.
