Alicia Aemisegger '10 Will Represent U.S. In World University Games
July 30, 2007 | General, Women's Swimming and Diving
Rising sophomore Alicia Aemisegger, a three-time All-America in 2007, will temporarily trade in her Orange and Black colors for the Red, White and Blue ones this week. The 2007 Ivy League Championships Swimmer of the Meet qualified for the World University Games and will swim both the 200 and 400 IM for the U.S. squad in Thailand.
Aemisegger qualified for the U.S. team in both events last year at the Senior National meet. Her U.S. squad left Sunday for a training trip in Singapore, where the U.S. Olympic team will train next summer. They will then leave for Bangkok, where the official competition will begin Aug. 9. Aemisegger, who set six individual Princeton records last year and placed in the top three in a pair of NCAA championship finals, including the 400 IM, will compete in the 200 IM on Aug. 10 and the 400 IM on Aug. 12. There will be morning heats in both events, and an 'A' and 'B' final in each at night.
"I have been training really well and trying to improve my walls (turns) and technique," Aemisegger said prior to leaving. "I have also been doing significant cardio work. I have been swimming 5 hours a day with an hour of dryland. I am really looking forward to getting more international experience and traveling with the U.S. team. I hope to swim well."
"We're excited for Alicia to have an opportunity to represent the USA and Princeton at the World University Games," veteran Princeton head coach Susan Teeter said. "This is a great opportunity for her to race the 400 IM before the 2008 Olympic Trials next summer."
Aemisegger and her Princeton teammates will look to defend their 2006 and 2007 Ivy League championships next winter, when the conference meet is once again held at DeNunzio Pool.
